Mobility hubs: A sustainable and recognisable future for shared mobility

Mobility hubs: A sustainable and recognisable future for shared mobility

On behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, the Province of Zeeland, and the five major municipalities, Mijksenaar has developed a new national identity for mobility hubs. This national identity contributes to the goal of creating a consistent, visible, and recognisable appearance for mobility hubs.

The essential role of mobility hubs in shared mobility

In cities with shared transport, different types of vehicles are often left scattered throughout the urban area. This has led to a growing focus on so-called central mobility hubs. Mobility hubs are strategic locations where various forms of shared transport and amenities are gathered and offered. Three main features are crucial for a uniform appearance:

  1. Recognition: Each hub is immediately identifiable by the green logo, enhancing visibility and findability.
  2. Overview: Clear pictograms indicate which (shared) vehicles and amenities, such as restrooms and Wi-Fi, are available.
  3. Instructions: Users are informed in clear language about how to use the facilities.

The standardisation of signage and wayfinding, including square pictograms on the ground, ensures intuitive navigation and clear markings for shared vehicles. Depending on the location, there are two types of hubs:

  • Compact hubs: All facilities are located close together.
  • Distributed hubs: Additional signage is needed to indicate the spread-out facilities.

How to ensure your hub complies with the official national guidelines

Installing hub signage in provinces and municipalities involves many considerations, especially for those responsible. It is important that the uniform appearance and layout of the hub signs comply with the official national guidelines. Therefore, it is essential to work with a partner who is well-versed in these guidelines, can provide support during implementation, and produces sustainably.

Hub signs that meet guidelines and are sustainable
