Project progress

Henk Janse, Project Manager at Strukton: "AGMI acted as a proactive sparring partner in this project and helped us by anticipating the realization of one of the most important components of the King Willem-Alexander Tunnel in Maastricht: tunnel safety. Among other things, they supplied contour lighting, accent lighting, and dynamic escape route lighting in accordance with the latest standards. We not only purchased the fixtures, but also the latest technology so that we can guide people safely through the tunnel for decades to come."

Products supplied

AGMI equipped no fewer than 85 emergency doors with the necessary safety equipment and additional support in this project. Each emergency exit door is equipped with an emergency fixture with audible beacon, accent lighting, and contour lighting. In addition to the emergency exit doors, AGMI produced no fewer than 355 emergency station fixtures and more than 1,500 various afterglow and static signs.

Because AGMI's products are quick and easy to install using plug-in connectors and hinge brackets, Strukton decided to install and commission the products itself. AGMI also developed a unique packaging system for this project to deliver the products to the customer without damage and to limit the amount of storage and waste.

Special features

Did you know that the shortest flight route is not always the safest? In consultation with the customer, a new, innovative dynamic Mid Tunnel Channel fixture with an integrated sound beacon has been designed, onto which the safest route is projected on the dynamic signs. It is therefore important to always follow the instructions projected on the dynamic fixtures in the central tunnel channel.

These dynamic fixtures consist of a green surface with arrows indicating the distance to the end of the escape route and a prohibition sign in the opposite direction. If one of the positions is not activated, the signs are not legible. The signs can change position depending on where an incident occurs. In the event of an incident, the tunnel fans are automatically started, allowing people to escape safely by following the dynamic fixtures in the opposite direction. The dynamic fixtures are activated in such a way that a safe route is created. Thanks to the integration of a speaker in the fixture, people are continuously provided with an audio message instructing them to follow the arrows to the exit. This prevents people from accidentally deviating from the route.
