The Province of Utrecht had a clear requirement for a tunnel passage in a natural area: the new LED lighting had to be sustainable and blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment. This meant no bright lights, but subtle, warm illumination that provides safety and comfort—without disturbing nature. The existing lighting no longer met requirements. The client wanted to switch to LED lighting while respecting the natural surroundings. The lighting needed to be functional without being overpowering: soft, atmospheric, and in harmony with nature.
From advice to implementation: our lighting approach
Instead of large, conspicuous LED units, we recommended the use of small LED strips. These provide focused, warm light without over-illumination or visual disruption. Thanks to their compact design and strategic placement, they blend seamlessly with the surroundings while still ensuring sufficient visibility and safety within the tunnel.

Development
